Alfred Lacks Carter is now revolutionizing the Lacks' legacy to improve healthcare for all. With a poetic pen, Alfred shatters the chains of silence, exposing pitfalls and injustices in marginalized communities. In his debut memoir, Shadows of Immortality, he chronicles his journey to redemption with

unflinching honesty and unwavering hope

Join us for an unforgettable private screening of the The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Oprah Winfrey stars in the true story of a woman's search for enlightenment about her mother -- whose cancer cells significantly

advanced the entire medical industry. The movie explores how one woman’s cells have saved and created millions

of lives. That woman is Henrietta Lacks.

In 2014, Dr. Washington, in collaboration with doctors from Rush and Northwestern hospitals, embarked on research regarding the disparities in stroke rates. She, along with Roberson and others, went to African American communities, talked with community members, and conducted focus groups.

In the HBO Film, Oprah Winfrey stars as Henrietta Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks. The film chronicles Deborah's search to learn about the mother she never knew, and how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks' cancerous cells in 1951 led to medical breakthroughs that changed the entire medical industry!

Oprah Winfrey shares an Instagram post of her and Renee Elise Goldsberry gracing the cover of Essence magazine. Goldsberry portrays Henrietta Lacks in HBO’s and Oprah’s film adaption of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
